The College was established in 1986, when His Highness, the late Amir Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Al-Khalifa, issued a decree merging the Gulf Polytechnic, founded in 1968, with the University College of Bahrain, founded in 1978.

In 2013, following a thorough review of regional and international programs in Business Administration, program changes were made by the College Curriculum Committee and Curriculum Committees in each Department, followed by a review of the Department and College Councils. A new major/minor track was added to the single-track option. New minors that were added include Accounting, Banking and Finance, Economics, International Business, Management, and Marketing.

In 2014, the Board of Trustees approved the introduction of a new program in Islamic Banking and Finance and the birth of the Department of Islamic Banking in the College. The program structure is unique in terms of combining Islamic Jurisprudence with banking Finance and Banking Law from the College of Law.

In December 2014, the QQA reviewed all college programs at the time and awarded ‘Full Confidence’ to these programs:

In April 15, 2016, the College earned the AACSB international accreditation for all college programs as the AACSB Board of Directors ratified the Initial Accreditation Committee (IAC) accreditation recommendation.

Our mission is to create and disseminate knowledge by qualified faculty and to equip graduates with skills, values and competencies needed to prepare them to succeed in the dynamic, global business environment.
