Virginia Military Institute

The mission of the Department of Economics and Business is to develop leaders within the framework of the unique Virginia Military Institute mission by offering a rigorous and challenging liberal arts curriculum based on a solid foundation in economic theory, quantitative methods, and management-specific knowledge and skills. The curriculum in economics and business leads to the bachelor of arts degree. The major develops in the student an understanding of the interrelationship between economic systems and business enterprise. The curriculum includes courses common to the liberal arts, with the aim of developing the student's ability to think critically about economic and business issues. In particular, the curriculum emphasizes the nurturing of analytical tools and methods of both public economic policy and business decision-making. A degree from Virginia Military Institute Department of Economics and Business can prepare students for almost any leadership position in the 21st century. Our graduates are well-prepared to take on careers in business, government, the military, or to attend graduate school.
